Richard A. Henson School of
Science & Technology
Department of
Mathematics & Computer Science
Masters of Science in Mathematics Education (MSME)
The MSME is intended for those who teach mathematics, and those who wish to
teach mathematics. The program has two tracks, one in middle school mathematics,
and another in high school mathematics. The programs include education
requirements. Unlike the M.Ed., the programs are based on mathematics
content, and the electives allow participants to take more mathematics content
courses than in the M.Ed. Applicants should currently hold valid teaching
certification or be working towards teaching certification through another
program.
Note: This degree is not a teaching certificate. The awarding of this MSME degree does not carry certification to teach.
The requirements for the MSME are listed in the program's checklist.
Link to the checklist for the MSME programs.
Here are the steps to follow to be admitted to the MSME program:
Apply for admission to graduate study by submitting a completed Application for Graduate Program Admission, with the application fee, to the Office of Admissions. On that application, under "INTENDED PLAN OF STUDY," check the box for Master of Science in Math Education. The application is available at http://www.salisbury.edu/gradstudy/admission.htm.
Have official transcripts sent to the Office of Admissions from EVERY college and university attended.
If you are seeking in-state tuition, submit a completed Residency/Domicile Information form to the Office of Admissions. That form is also available on the Office of Admissions' web site. http://www.salisbury.edu/gradstudy/admission.html
For admission to
the MSME program also complete and submit an
Application for Admission to the MSME Program. Submit that
application to the Mathematics and Computer Science Department, Graduate
Studies, Salisbury University, 1101 Camden Avenue, Salisbury, MD 21801.
Be sure to include the required description of your reasons for pursuing
graduate study in mathematics education, and a statement of your career goals
with your application.

Application for Admission to the MSME Program.
Once you have been admitted to the MSME program, you will be contacted by the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at SU and be given additional information about the program and an advisor who will help you plan your course of study.
Upon approaching completion of the MSME program, here are some steps to follow:
Students admitted and matriculated into a graduate program must complete at least one SU graduate course in each calendar year (including fall, winter, spring, and summer terms) to maintain their admitted status. Students who fail to meet that requirement and wish to re-enter the graduate program must request to be reactivated through the Registrar's Office. Questions regarding the reactivation process may be answered by calling the Registrar's Office at 410-543-6150. The application for readmission my be found online at http://www.salisbury.edu/registrar/forms/readmission.doc.
It is the responsibility of the individual graduate student to check with his/her faculty advisor to make sure that all degree requirements have been fulfilled and to make the necessary arrangements with the Office of the Registrar for graduation.
Each degree candidate must make application for his/her diploma. The Application for Diploma is available in the Office of the Registrar and must be completed and returned to the Registrar's Office not later than the end of the drop/add period of the final semester before graduation. If the student fails to file Application for Diploma by this deadline, graduation may be delayed one semester. Any student who finds it necessary to postpone graduation must submit a new Application for Diploma to the Office of the registrar.
