Ernest Bond, Ph. D., is a Professor in the Seidel School of Education at Salisbury University where he specializes in children's and young adult literature. Dr. Bond has been involved in education in some capacity for close to 30 years, starting as a teacher in an Upward Bound Program. Throughout his career, he has taught preschool and PreK, served as adjunct faculty at Ohio Dominican College, and provided education consulting and research services.  Since 2001 he has taught at Salisbury University

 

Dr. Bond received his Bachelor's degree in Anthropology/Sociology at Kenyon College, a Master's degree in Black Studies (now African American and African Studies) at The Ohio State University, and his Ph.D. in Education from The Ohio State University. He has also studied at the University of Copenhagen (DIS), Oxford University (Jesus College), and University of Montpelier. 

 

In 2007, Dr. Bond was named 2007 Maryland Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He also received the highest faculty honor given by the University System of Maryland - the Regents Award for Excellence in Teaching.

 

Dr. Bond has served as the U.S. jurist for the Hans Christian Andersen Award, and has also served on committees that choose the Green Earth Book Awards, and the Outstanding International Children’s Book Awards.  He has coordinated the Children’s and Young Adult Literature Festival /Read Green Festival at Salisbury University for the past 12 years.  He is also a Board member of The Nature Generation, and a member of The Children’s Book Guild, The United States Board on Books for Young Readers, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the State of Maryland Reading Council

 

At least once a year he leads a course on International Children’s Literature to somewhere outside of the USA (Brazil, Australia/New Zealand, Iceland/Europe…)
