Course Description

Study of children's literature highlighting historical trends and outstanding contemporary examples.  Focus on literary genre, reader response, and possibilities for classroom use of the literature read.

Attendance Policy

Projects must be completed and submitted on time unless other arrangements are agreed upon prior to the due date. Make-up tests are not routinely given, but may be arranged at the discretion of the instructor in the case of extenuating circumstances.  Active and regular class participation is an essential component of the course and will be part of the course evaluation.

Teacher candidates must complete this course with a "C" or better in order to meet the program requirements.


Writing Across the Curriculum: 

The Education Department supports the SU position that graduates will be able to communicate clearly and correctly in all written work.  Correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar are expected for all written assignments.  Style for projects is APA with 12 point font, double-spacing, and one inch margins.



Graduate credit is no longer given for this course.  REED 520 - Literature for Children and Adolescents is for graduate students.
