Friends,

Exciting things are happening in the Write Place lab at Delmar.  Our SU interns are teaching excellent lessons that include technology.  This is one of their assignments as interns.

Dot Bell is currently doing a series of lessons with Carla Hicks' 5th grade science students. She gave me a list of web resources on constellations for the students to use.  I placed them on my webpage that is filled with resources for our students.  Each computer in our Write Place lab boots to this page:

If you go there you will see her links right at the top.   Dot and Carla are guiding the students as they do their research from these links and then... this is the exciting piece.... the kids are going to *draw* their constellations using PowerPoint.  They will add stars to the screen, one by one, and then draw lines to link them.  Fantastic.   Some will finish their research today and begin to build their PowerPoint presentations from 1-2 PM.  Stop by to see them if you have a free minute.

Valerie Weaver (Owens' class) and Maya Redwan (Debbie Smith's class) used the FEMA website and a worksheet to guide the students as they read information on the website and answered questions about weather disasters.  Every student was engaged during the lesson and excited about what they saw on the screen.

Kelly Painter (J, Taylor's class) and 5th students used Kidspiration and Word to build Tall Tales.  Their tales are super!

Jayna Shank (Sowell's class) brought 4th grade students to the Write Place lab where they made graphs using Graph Club to display data found while doing a probability experiment in science class.  They truly enjoyed their visit to the lab.

Theresa Steiger (with Kaiser's class) taught a lesson on Cause and Effect using Kidspiration with second grade students.  Clicking, dragging and composing original causes for given effects were included in the lesson.

We are very happy to have our interns with us!

All the best,
Patti
