My interests are in political philosophy, ethics, medical ethics, and ancient philosophy. I am especially concerned with the question of community and the central role it plays in our work and public lives. In addition to the areas mentioned above, I teach a course entitled "Work and the Public Good" (Can you find meaning flipping burgers at MacDonalds?!) And "The Hero" (Where have all the heroes gone?). I have published articles on assisted suicide, the death and dying movement, and have written book reviews for The New York Times, and have just completed a manuscript entitled Neither Beasts Nor Gods: Essays In Public Philosophy.
