GRADE COMPUTATION        (See also  Policies .)

When your SORTING NUMBER is assigned, write it here:_____ .  You must put it at the upper right-hand corner of each sheet of paper I grade. Otherwise I will deduct one point per sheet.

Your COURSE GRADE depends on the number of points you earn. Minimum points required for grades A, B, C, D will be about 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, and these percentage minimums apply even if there is an error in the table below.  If there is an error in the table below, please notify me so that I can correct it.  In addition, an A requires passing the final, and a B or C may require passing the final.

BORDERLINE GRADES: If your percentage is just above or just below the minimum value for a B, I may require 60% or better on all tests/final to get a B for the course. Similarly, if your percentage is near the minimum for an A, I may require 70% or better on all tests/final to get an A. Judgements will be individual, based on consistency and improvement.

QUIZZES:  A quiz is scheduled at the very beginning of nearly every class, and the problem will come from HOMEWORK on the topic most recently introduced.  The date marked with a plus sign is the date the topic was introduced, not the date of the quiz. Plan time to ask me questions when the topic is introduced or between classes.  (HOMEWORK is not collected.)

HELP:  Ask me for help before it's too late. Free tutoring is usually available in Blackwell library, starting soon after the beginning of a fall or spring semester, and ending before final exams.

HONESTY:   If you study with someone else, be sure both of you are learning.
You are expected neither to give nor to receive help (except from me) on a paper submitted for a grade.
