INCOMPLETE GRADES   2001 Sep 18    Dr. Luft

Concept

The incomplete grade (I) for a semester is to help a student who has almost finished the semester, but because of an emergency has been unable to complete the semester.  Typically the student will have missed the final exam because of illness.  The student can then return after a matter of days or weeks to take the final exam.

An incomplete grade is not an alternative to a drop because your grade is low.

Rules

To get an incomplete, you must ask me.  Then we must agree on a plan by which you will complete the course in a short time.  If you do not complete the course by midterm of the following semester, the Registrar's office would automatically enter a failure (F).

Military Activation

As soon as you receive a warning of military activation, it is your responsibility to visit the Registrar's office (registrar@salisbury.edu) and discuss your options.  After you deploy, you should keep in touch with them by email.  You may talk to anyone in the Registrar's office, but you may also talk to Mr. Saulsbury (Registrar) or Mr. Leisten (Veterans Affairs Director).  Their email addresses are jasaulsbury@salisbury.edu  and  rdleisten@salisbury.edu  .

Current policy allows withdrawal from all courses with a full refund, or you can negotiate other arrangements (including incompletes) with some or all of your instructors.  The option you choose will depend greatly on when you leave school and when you expect to return.  You should make a decision before you go and inform the Registrar's office, but you can also revise your decision later as circumstances change.  As of this writing, the Board of Regents is deliberating a change in policy.

Military activation during a semester is usually not a case for an incomplete grade.  You probably will not have finished enough of the course for an incomplete to make sense, and will not be back before midsemester of the following term.
