Audio can compliment a multimedia presentation by adding information essential to the project. For example, a PowerPoint presentation on music, personal experiences, or historical events can all be enhanced by adding audio in the form of music or narration.

The software that you will need to create audio files will probably already be on your computer. Most computer speakers come with the necessary programs to create audio files. If you feel that you need a different program, you can find several at Download.com. Microsoft Windows Media Player 6.4 is a popular choice. |

To create an audio file from a CD |
|||||
| 1. Insert a CD in the CD drive. | |||||
| 2. Open Soundo 'LE (Start>Programs>Sound Blaster> Soundo 'LE) If another program launches to play the CD, close it and open Soundo 'LE. | |||||
| 3. The program will look like the one below. Keep
it open on your desktop.
4. Activate the CD inputs by opening the Creative Mixer. Click on the icon of the CD to activate the CD inputs. To open the Creative Mixer, click on Start, Programs, Sound Blaster, Creative Mixer.
5. Click on the CD icon on Sound' LE to launch the CD player. It will look like the image below:
6. Select the music that you want to record and begin playing it. 7. To record, click on the red record button on the Sound'LE dialog box. Click on the black box to stop recording. 8. To save the file, click on File >Save as and save to your P drive. |

To Create an Audio File Using a Microphone |

| 1. Recording audio using an microphone is not difficult.
It does, however, require a few more steps than recording from a CD.
2. To record from a microphone, you first need to attach a microphone to the computer. On the back of the computers in the SSU lab, insert the microphone cable into the red input jack on the back of the computer. 3. Next you must tell the computer that you wish to use that input device when recording. To do this you need to open a specific program. Click on the start button on the bottom left of you screen >Programs >Sound Blaster 16 >Creative Mixer. It will look like this:
4. Select the column for accessing the microphone. Slide the volume bar to the top to increase the volume and then click in the white box at the top to turn the input on. You will see sound waves when this has been activated. You can then close the program by clicking on the green switch on the top left. 5. Now you need to open the program that will allow you to record the narration. Start > Programs > Sound Blaster 16 > Soundo' LE.
6. Press the red record button and begin to speak. Be sure to speak loudly and slowly. Press the black stop (square) button when you have finished and save the file. |
