Bronchogenic Carcinoma - (PH 1240)
(Be able to
identify the slide of lung cancer; differentiate between slides of normal and

Note that the cancerous neoplasm is invading throughout the lung and
replacing normal lung tissue. Note that in many areas the alveolar walls
are thickened and many air spaces are filled with cancer cells.
Normal lung (40X2.0)
Lung with cancer (40X2.0)

Contains mostly thin membranes, open
air-filled
Contains thickened membranes, many spaces filled
spaces, large vessel (far left) and large
airway
with cancer cells.
(lower right)
Normal lung (100X2.0)
Lung with cancer (100X2.0)

Contains thickened membranes, cancer cells fill many
spaces, and many small vessels (bright
red)
