Listed below are the positions, at least one of which, you will be assuming for a production. The written requirements are not "busy" work; it will help you to manage time effectively during the production. The written work should be typed and should be done before you come into the studio. If it is assessed that the work was done in the studio, it will not be accepted and you will receive a grade of zero for that assignment. Right after the production, give all the paperwork to the producer, who will then put them in a folder (the production book), and hand it to the Executive Producer. EXECUTIVE PRODUCER Typically oversees all the productions. PRODUCER Is in charge of a particular production. Is responsible for creation, development and design of the program. The idea of the program may originate from the producer and then he/she in conjunction with other members of the crew, brings the program to fruition. Written Requirement: the treatment and the pre-production log. WRITER Is responsible for writing and all other aspects of the script. Consults the producer on the program idea and writes the script according to the producer's treatment. Is responsible for all rewrites and revisions of the script. Written Requirement: the program script (final draft). DIRECTOR Is responsible for the creative look of the program. Consults the producer, writer, set designer, light designer and audio designer, to achieve the proper aesthetic feel of the program. Is in charge of the production in the studio. Written Requirement: studio schedule, technical script and shot lists. SET DESIGNER Is responsible for designing and setting up the production set. Consults the script and the director to create an authentic and believable set. Drafts the set design onto the studio floor plan. Written Requirement: set design (w/ camera placement diagram) and written narrative. LIGHT DESIGNER Is responsible for designing and implementing the lighting for the production. Consults the script, set designer and director to achieve justified lighting. Drafts the design on a lighting grid. Written Requirement: light design and written narrative. AUDIO DESIGNER Is responsible for designing and implementing the audio needs for the production. Consults the script, director, set and light designer for the proper choice and placement of various sound elements. Drafts the microphone placements (w/ cables) on a floorplan. Written Requirement: Audio design and written narrative (mention sources). ASSISTANT DIRECTOR Is responsible for assisting the director with and during the production. Consults the director in making key decisions during rehearsal and makes the appropriate changes. Times the program to keep a check on the running time. Written Requirement: Copy of the director's script with annotated running time/s. TECHNICAL DIRECTOR Is responsible for all technical elements of the production. Checks and makes sure that all equipment is working properly. Runs the switcher during the production. Written Requirement: Equipment Checklist, if any. FLOOR MANAGER Is the liaison between the actors in the studio and the director in the control room. Relays the director's commands to the studio floor. Maintains proper studio discipline. Relays the camera operator's questions to the director. Is in charge of the studio floor. Written Requirement: none VIDEOGRAPHER Is responsible for running cameras during the production. Knows and applies aesthetics to achieve proper compositions in the frame, in accordance with the director's commands. Written Requirement: none GRAPHICS GENERATOR Is responsible for running the character generator during the production. Consults with the producer and director and provides proper graphics and credits. Written Requirement: graphics sheet and credits list GAFFER Is responsible for assisting the lighting designer to set up the proper lighting. Uses the "cherry picker" to position and adjust the lights on the grid, as per the designer's directions. Written Requirement: none ENGINEER for the recording of the production Is responsible. White balances the cameras before taping. Ascertains that the recording levels of video and audio are correct. Written Requirement: none
