Lesson Plan:

Take an existing lesson plan, or create a new one of your own, and adapt it to incorporate some of the concepts and techniques from the 2204 Summer Geometry Institute. A successful lesson plan will contain:

  1. An outline of activities for the lesson.
  2. A list of goals and the activities to be used to accomplish those goals.
  3.  A brief description of which Goal 2 indicators ( for your grade band) the lesson addresses (as we did with some of the materials this summer).
  4. A brief description of which of the NCTM geometry and/or algebra  goals (from your grade band) are met by your lesson.
  5. A list of the materials and technology that will be used.
  6. Handouts and supplemental materials that will be distributed to the students.
  7. A "To The Teacher" document that discusses in detail the mathematics behind the exercises and activities, answers to the exercises and activities and a discussion of the intended outcomes for the students with reference to the goals of the lesson.
  8. Any other materials you feel are pertinent or are required by your school.
  9. A Geometer’s Sketchpad component.

A successful lesson plan will demonstrate:

  1. Well thought goals and their relation to state and national standards.
  2. Your ability to adapt this class's material to a middle, high, or elementary school classroom.
  3. Your ability to create effective supplemental materials for students.
  4. Your ability to create effective supplemental materials for teachers.
  5. Your ability to use technology effectively to aid in mathematics instruction.

What you give us:

1. A time that one of the SU professors can visit your classroom and see the implementation of a component of the lesson (your entire lesson might take more than one class session, we just need to visit one session).

2 . A conversation (in-person or email or by phone) with the SU professor to discuss the lesson and brainstorm possible adjustments that would make the lesson even better for future classes.

3. An electronic copy of all of the materials listed in the Lesson Plan above to also include the adjusted lesson that we can burn onto a CD and distribute to other Prime participants.

Due to time constraints this lesson plan does not need to be an extensive collection of documents. Aim for quality over quantity.
