Mathematica Labs for Calculus I
- For Friday 9/4 Due Monday 9/14:
- Open and work through Getting started with Mathematica
- Open and work through The Surd Function
- Create a new Notebook - choose File then New then Notebook from the menu bar in Mathematica - or just press control n in Mathematica (which you will print and turn in with your summary on September 14) in Mathematica In this notebook create graphs of the following functions with a brief
written description (not more than 1 - 4 sentences)
in your own words of each graph and what the graph tells you about the function. You may want to experiment with ranges to
find a range on which the graph shows characteristics of the function.
- f(x) = x sin(x)
- f(x) = sin(x)/x
- f(x) = the fifth root of x
- f(x) = x3-3x2-x+3
- f(x) = ex
- f(x) = ln(x)
- f(x) = e-x2
Although Mathematica is available in the computer labs the Salisbury
University site license
for Mathematica allows you to install the student version
on your home computers. To download your free home-use copy go to the
