Art Reaction
Paper Guidelines

Please attend an art exhibition and respond with a critique that follows the guidelines listed here.

1. Please head your reaction paper as follows in the top left corner:

2. Please address the following questions in your reaction composition:

            1) Please describe, briefly, the collection on display in terms of the number of items
            shown and their organization in the gallery.  What is the name and background of the artist
            (or artists) and the theme that binds these works together.

            2) What do you know of the artist's background in terms of types of media, other shows
            he/she has had, style of art, etc?  How do these works reflect the ideas and beliefs of the
            artist?  Is he/she making a statement (ie. politically, socially, religiously)?

            3) How do these works reflect or reject cultural themes in society today? What other works
            are similar to these in their message ( this is not limited to visual art)?

            4) Did you like/dislike this exhibit?  Is this "good" art to you?  Why? Where there any works
            in particular that stand out, either positively or negatively?  Would you visit any other  
            exhibits by this artist/artists?

Format:
            There is a 2-page minimum, and it must be typed, double-spaced, in 12 point, 1-inch margins, and stapled.  If the response is sent by e-mail, please send as an attachment in Microsoft word.

Due Date:  Please submit your reaction by the Friday following your exhibition visit.
