For your country paper, you will be working on the same country that you have used for your first two worksheets. For this assignment, I would like for you to focus upon how your country gained its independence and attempted to fashion its independent government since 1914. What type of political and economic systems did it embrace? What problems does it face now? How does it relate to the larger themes from our class of the Cold War and Anti-Colonialism in the second half of the twentieth century?  What are your countries prospects for the 21st century?

For this paper, please use the same sources that  you have been using thus far - the library of congress portals to the world website, as well as the CIA Factbook and State Department websites, will be quite useful for this paper, as your focus will be more contemporary. You may also use your textbook.

As always - use quotations, and feel free to e-mail me with any questions that you have.

Citation:  When you cite information in the report include the source in parentheses at the end of the sentence or paragraph.  For instance if you write a paragraph on the natural resources of the nation and the information all comes from the CIA World Fact Book, you would write (CIA Factbook) at the end of the paragraph.  Obviously, you must use “quote marks” for any direct quotes, and you must cite all sources as used. Plagiarism, as explained in the syllabus, has severe consequences.

Your grade will be based upon the quality of your writing (I expect no typos or grammar errors) and the quality (including accuracy) of your information.

This report should be  4 pages, or roughly 1,000 words in length. Your paper should be double-spaced in a 12-point font, with margins not in excess of 1.25 inches. Please only include your name and the name of your country on the top of the first page.

You must turn in your assignment via turnitin.com  as an electronic document. Papers must be uploaded onto this website by class time on May 6th (Tuesday). No late papers will be accepted without prior permission.  I also would like for you to turn in a hard-copy of your paper in class (to show that you had the assignment completed on time). I will not grade this hard copy until I have received an electronic copy. If you are not sure how to use turnitin.com, please ask.
