Each class period except those during which there is a test each student must bring an entry slip or ticket to class. These slips should be little slips of paper on which you have written the following:

• The problem number and source(i.e. handout or text page number) of a problem on which you have a question or that you found either particularly difficult or particularly interesting. Or you could choose a problem for which you have a solution of which you are particularly proud.
  
  
• One or two sentences - NO MORE!!! - asking your question or saying why you found the problem or your solution particularly difficult or interesting.

• If you have not done any homework (THIS SHOULD BE A RARE OCCURRENCE) then a statement to that effect will suffice -- on occasion.

• If no homework has been assigned (the day after a test perhaps) then write a statement about your general understanding of course material.

  
  
  

  Purpose of this assignment: To speed up the beginning of class when you are usually looking for the problems you want to ask about. To give me more information on where you are. I will review entry slips and answer questions from them BEFORE I administer any pop quizzes.
  
  

  Effect on grade: I will not generally (after the first class) take role. If I don't have an entry slip from you then I will not have a record that you attended and you will not get credit for attending that class. See the attendance policy.
