For
blood to pick up much O2 in the lungs, the blood must contain much Hb,
good Hb, have high pH, and low temp. (high pH and low temp. make Hb bind more O2
and hold it tightly).

Even
with normal ventilation and normal lungs, the blood picks up little O2 in
the lungs if there is little Hb or the Hb is abnormal because most O2
is carried bound to Hb.

Even with normal ventilation and normal lungs, the blood picks
up little O2 in the lungs if the blood has a low pH or a high temp.
because the Hb does not bind much O2 and binds O2 weakly.
