School:

Pocomoke Middle School

Indicator(s)/Sub-Outcome(s)/Expectation(s):

2.A.1.a ~  Identify and describe angles formed by intersecting lines, line segments and rays

2.A.2.b ~ Determine the measurements of angles formed by intersecting lines, line segments and rays

2.A.1.b ~ 2.A.1.b Identify angles formed when two parallel lines are cut by a transversal

Student Outcome(s):

Students will be able to identify and find measurement angles when two parallel lines are cut by a transversal

   Context for Learning

  • Students are placed in cooperative learning groups to enhance the “discovery” part of the learning.

   Instructional Delivery

Opening Activities/Motivation:

Introduce vocabulary using the Frayer model leaving out the example and diagram component of the model ( they will be filled in throughout the lesson).

                                                           Parallel lines

                                                           Transversal

                                                           Vertex

                                                           Ray

                                                           Adjacent Angles

                                                           Vertical Angles

                                                           Corresponding Angles

                                                           Supplementary Angles

                                                           Alternate Interior Angles

Procedures:

  • Given two parallel lines students cut a transversal and explore angle relationships using patty paper.

                                                         Parallel Lines worksheet (contains GSP file you can print)

  • Discussion on what relationships are discovered

                                                         GSP demonstration of Angles  (for interactive class discussion)

  • Quiz / class work filling in the missing angles

                                                      Quiz/Class work
