re: Class Size Issues
As you all know, we seek at Huxley to provide every student with an absolutely first-rate educational experience in every class. To that end, we seek you input regarding some guidelines for class size throughout our curriculum. Recognizing that we obviously need to achieve some balance between economy of scale and individual attention, please prepare your recommendations for me concerning the following sorts of classes:
o Introductory and survey courses
o Classes for majors taken in the upper division
o Lab and studio art classes
o Seminars
o Graduate classes
o Supervised field experiences such as practica and student teaching (ratio or students to faculty for supervision purposes)
I would also like to hear your recommendation concerning the classroom capacities and instructional inhibitors in a sampling of the classrooms in this building. Please send a committee to inspect at least 4 classrooms in Caruthers Hall and report back on usable square footage, furniture (type and quantity), sight lines, AV equipment, HVAC, flexibility for a variety of instructional strategies, and the like.
