PascGalois Zn (Version 1.2.1)

PascGalois Zn, like PascGalois JE, is a platform independent program developed for the exploration of one and two dimensional cellular automata. The difference between the two is that PascGalois Zn produces cellular automata over only Zn but allows you to use update rules that employ both addition and multiplication. This is a Java application, so if the Java JRE is not installed on your computer download and install the current version of the Java JRE (Version 8 or later). You can get the most current version at the Java Web Site.

Windows Install Program

Instructions: Download and run the PascGaloisZnSetup.exe program and follow the instructions on the screen. This will place links to the PascGalois Zn program in your Start menu.

Windows Portable Version (No Install)

Instructions: Download and run the PascGaloisZn.exe program.

Linux & Mac

Instructions: Both the Linux and Mac distributions are as a single executable jar file that, in most cases, will run natively on these platforms. Download and unzip the PascGaloisJE_Jar.zip file, the new folder will contain the executable jar PascGaloisZn.jar, as well as the license and program icon (png image file). You can also run the application using the following command.

java -jar PascGaloisZn.jar

To create a shortcut/menu-item please refer to the documentation for your operating system.

  • Removed the 3-D viewer for 2-D automata. This also removed the dependency on third party libraries and made the program more stable across platforms.
  • Rewrote deprecated code to be compatible with Java 12 standards.

  • Added facilities to save images as Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) files that can be read by most web browsers and any SVG editing package.
  • Increased the speed of the 3-D graphics routines.
