Born in from
Bombay
(now Mumbai),
India,
I lived among a family of eight: two parents, three brothers,
two sisters. No cats, no dogs. (Although I did try to adopt a
dog when I was young but my mother did not agree with the idea.)
Armed with a degree in Chemistry(!!) from the
University of Bombay and a
post-graduate diploma in Communications from the
Xavier Institute of
Communications, I worked in the advertising industry for
several years before
starting graduate school and earning a Master's degree from
Southern University in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana. Here, I had an
opportunity to work at a local TV station in Production. After adopting a penchant for hot Cajun food and Zydeco music, I moved north to Chicago
where I freelanced and then moved up
farther north to more cold and snow at Syracuse where I earned my Ph.D. from the
Newhouse School of
Communications at Syracuse
University. This is also where I met my wife and
fell madly in love.
Years later, I moved again, this time back to
the mid-west, teaching at Ball State
University in Muncie,
Indiana. After years of corn-fed
happiness and couple of baby Hoosiers along the way, I moved back to New York, teaching at the
State
University of New York,
New Paltz. While here, I also got
an opportunity to spend some time in
Japan on a
AAC&U research
grant. Rip van Winkle and the
mountains kept me company and then the
beaches of the Eastern Shore of
Maryland began their beckoning.
Currently I am teaching media at
Salisbury University.
Here, I had a chance to revisit the country
in which I
grew up: Twice, as a Fulbright Senior Scholar, I spent time in
India, teaching media at universities. This
experience led me to develop a study abroad program
Bollywood and Beyond in
India in the winter semesters. |
